Clean Sweep is played on a 12' by 12' playing field split in half by a wall. The game involves four VEX robots competing in opposing alliances of two (red or blue). Each match consists of a 20-second autonomous mode followed by a two-minute driver-controlled period.
The object of the game is to have fewer game pieces on your side at the end of the match. Scoring can be done by moving game pieces from the game floor, from elevated goal posts, or from human players on each alliance who introduce a large ball near the end of the match. To count, balls must be completely within your opponent's side of the field. Small balls may be locked up in four triangular goals situated along the wall. Bonus points are also awarded to the alliance scoring more points in autonomous mode.
The two primary scoring object types are small green soccer balls and medium orange footballs. There is also one large white bonus ball per alliance introduced onto the playing field in the last 30 seconds of the match.
Each green ball scored on the opponent’s side is worth one point, each orange ball is worth five points, and each large bonus ball is worth ten points. Small balls locked up in the triangular goals are worth three points instead of one. The alliance scoring the most points wins the match.
