From January 4-7, I had steadily worked on multiple figures on 3ds Max. Originally, I made an effort to work with the different tools in the program. However, when 2009 Autodesk Visualization Design Competition had been released, it interrupted my train of thoughts and caused my partner and me to brainstorm an idea for our thirty-second clip. I researched the topic ‘biomimicry’ and learned that it was innovation inspired by nature. Therefore, I spent a while searching on numerous animal characteristics and nature-related topics. Eventually, my partner and I were able to list a few ideas. They were not the best ideas, but it was a start.
The researching on animals had suddenly triggered an urge in me to create a narwhal on 3ds Max. A narwhal is a whale with a long horn. (Like a unicorn whale) I began to mess around with many functions to see what produced the best effect. I learned about editing poly. It allowed me to tweak the figure around. The function was quite fun once I got the hang of it. However, due to limitations, I was unable to complete my narwhal. I had only finished it half way. Somehow, it turned out to look like a bird’s head.
After I discontinued my narwhal, I searched up tutorials. At first, I wanted to remake a pig. The first pig that I created on 3ds Max could have been better. The pig tutorial got me confused at some point, so I saved it and decided to create something that I could put in the thirty-second animation. I looked up tutorials on trees. A few tutorials taught how to make a tree. I attempted two out of three. The first tutorial was a bit infuriating. Making the branches was a bit hard. I moved onto the second tutorial. I am currently working on it, but I am still having trouble with it. Along the way, I discovered the art of rendering objects, thus my goal is to finish my tree and try to make it grow. I also plan to come up with a satisfying idea for the animation project before the weekday ends.
