2007 Holiday Science and Tech Fair

2007 Holiday Science and Tech Fair   The Holiday Science and Technology Fair held at the Japanese Cultural Center was an opportunity for the students to talk with technology companies that also attended the fair. We also demonstrated our robot for all the attendees of the fair.

    Hawaii FLL Competition Host

To inspire young students to continue higher education in robotics and engineering, we held the FIRST LEGO League at the McKinley High School Gym. Many of our students volunteered to be timekeepers, crowd control, and worked concessions. The rest of the team displayed and answered questions about our FRC robot and demonstrated our VEX robots.   Hawaii FLL Competition Host

    Tiger Showcase Night

Tiger Showcase Night   The Tiger Showcase Night is an event held at our school for middle school students planning to attend McKinley High School. We took this opportunity to some early recruitment and demonstrate our different robots to attract students into our program and into the field of engineering.

    Hawaii VEX Competition

The McKinley Robotics Team planned, set up, and ran the very first VEX Competition hosted in Hawaii. The game, called "Bridge Battle", was first played by the Asian Robotics League in Seoul, Korea. This event was open to all the rookie teams in Hawaii participating in this year's FIRST Robotics Competition. The event was organized to give the Hawaii rookie teams a taste of the FRC environment.   Hawaii VEX Competition

    Lacy Veach Day

Lacy Veach Day   Lacy Veach Day is a celebration that honors the life and legacy of Charles Lacy Veach. Astronaut Lacy Veach grew up in Honolulu, had an interest in science, had a distinguished career in the United States Air Force, and went on to fly two Space Shuttle missions. Held at Punahou, we demonstrated our 2007 robot to a crowd of both adults and children.

    HECO Demonstration

The McKinley Robotics Team demonstrated at Hawaiian Electric Company in an effort to help recruit mentors for the many new rookie teams. The team met with many of the engineers that work at HECO and was an enlightening meeting for both students and HECO engineers.   HECO Demonstration

    Parent Night

Parent Night   In an effort to gather more parental support, the McKinley Robotics Team invited all parents of current members to attend an informational presentation. This allowed the parents to have a better understanding of what their children are doing while at robotics and invites them to get more involved in this program.

    Sacred Hearts Demonstration

We received a request from a teacher from Sacred Hearts Academy asking that we demonstrate our robots at their parent open house. Never turning down a request to demo, we went to their school and demonstrated our robot in front of an assembly full of parents and then we talked with some of the students interested in robotics.   Sacred Hearts Demonstration

    Rookie Teacher/Mentor Workshop

Rookie Teacher/Mentor Workshop   The McKinley Robotics teachers and mentors ran this workshop to help prepare the many rookie teams in Hawaii on what to expect during the FRC season. Mr. Ing described the type of materials, tools, and vendors that the teams may need during the season. Ms. Owens explained the programming, electronics, and pneumatics that are provided in the Kit of Parts. Mr. Tui described what it takes to run and organize a FIRST Robotics Team.
