The CIM motors are attached to a transmission which reduces the output speed but increases torque. The transmission is a two speed automatic or manual transmission. First gear is used for pushing power and accelerating from a dead stop. Shift to second gear, and Hot Lava is now blazing at over 13 feet per second!

   The gearbox spins the wheels via a sprocket and chain system. Chains can transmit rotational power over long distances so they are the preferred method for a drivetrain. We can adjust the distance between the wheel of the robot to accommodate for the chain stretching over time.
